StepFun's hardware unit, StepX, released its first agent smartphone, the STEPX Neo Pioneer Edition, for 3,999 yuan (about $600), one report says.

Why it matters

Bundling terminal hardware, models, an operating system, and monthly token quotas makes the physical device the distribution layer for StepFun's software, shifting agent monetization from cloud API fees to consumer hardware sales.

What we know

  • StepFun bundles the hardware with a 12-month allocation of 10 billion tokens per month, the Step AOS system, and the Step Studio tool.
  • The phone runs an on-device Step Edge base model for lightweight tasks alongside cloud models for multi-step planning, supported by a six-microphone array and a dedicated audio chip.
  • The built-in Amoo agent links to nearly 100 partner services, including Alipay, Tencent, and Meituan, and incorporates Alipay's Vibe Pay for on-device app generation and payments.
  • A dedicated rear display shows agent states, while the first 10,000 buyers receive a pass allowing free terminal exchanges over five years.

What we don't know

Whether StepX can manufacture and deliver the hardware at scale. No independent benchmark or teardown has verified device performance.
