IPercept Raises $16.5M to Boost CNC Machine Efficiency

IPercept raised $16.5M Series A led by Isogon Ventures and 2150 to boost CNC machine efficiency with physical AI diagnostics.

IPercept raises $16.5M

The big picture: Stockholm-based IPercept has raised a $16.5 million Series A funding round to address the long-standing inefficiency of CNC machine tools in manufacturing. The company, which provides non-invasive diagnostics, aims to bring physical AI to factory floors. IPercept now serves over 30 customers, including major industrial players like Airbus, Bosch, and Volvo.

Why it matters:

  • Persistent inefficiency: CNC machines, critical to global manufacturing and accounting for nearly 3% of global GDP, have operated at an average efficiency of just 50-60% for decades due to a lack of effective monitoring.
  • Untapped market: While other automation sectors like humanoid robots and warehouse systems attract significant investment, the $1 trillion global market for CNC machines has received comparatively less attention for efficiency improvements.
  • Predictive maintenance growth: IPercept’s solution taps into the rapidly expanding predictive maintenance market, projected to reach $97.37 billion by 2034, by preventing costly machine failures and extending asset life.

How it works:

  • Non-invasive diagnostics: IPercept’s device attaches to the moving section of any CNC machine, regardless of brand, model, or age, to measure motion at the micrometer level.
  • Controller-agnostic: The technology operates without needing to connect to the machine’s controller or the customer’s IT network, simplifying deployment and enhancing security.
  • Rapid deployment: The solution requires no historical data and can be installed on each machine in just a few hours, providing immediate, comprehensive insights into machine health.

The catch: While IPercept emphasizes a partnership approach within the industrial ecosystem, it operates in a competitive landscape with other predictive maintenance providers. Companies like Augury, Samotics, and MachineMetrics address similar problems using different technical methods, such as vibration/ultrasound sensors, electrical signature monitoring, or direct controller connections. IPercept’s unique non-invasive, brand-agnostic approach offers distinct advantages in ease of integration but may need to overcome established preferences for controller-based or broader equipment monitoring solutions.
