March 25, 2024 – Artificial Intelligence (AI) stole the spotlight at the Global Development Conference (GDC) 2024, a pivotal event that wrapped up its two-day run in Shanghai yesterday, drawing a diverse crowd ranging from developers to university students and professionals across various sectors.
The conference, hosted at the bustling Shanghai West Bund Dome Art Center, saw its events packed to the brim, signaling the burgeoning interest in AI technologies. A short distance away, an expansive interactive area sprawled over nearly 10,000 square meters, where attendees engaged with the latest in AI innovations.
A standout exhibit was SoftBank’s humanoid robot, Pepper, equipped by default with Baidu’s advanced language model, Ernie Bot. Tailorable to meet specific client needs, Pepper is designed with a focus on aiding the elderly through smart memory exercises and cognitive stimulation, acting as a versatile companion capable of emotional support and health monitoring.
The event also featured cutting-edge humanoid robots from Cetc Electronics Equipment Group, Yushu Science and Technology, and Yunshenchu Technology, among others. Yushu, in partnership with Nvidia, captivated audiences with its Unitree H1, a humanoid robot capable of mimicking human movement, including walking, running, and dancing.
In total, the conference showcased six humanoid robots and nearly 20 robotic innovations, ranging from quadruped bots to exoskeletons and collaborative robots, according to reports from AIPressRoom China.
Tesla’s Cybertruck, displayed prominently at the conference entrance, turned heads and drew crowds, highlighting the intersection of AI and automotive technologies.
Moreover, companies like Moonshot AI and Baichuan AI, specializing in the development of large language models (LLMs), offered attendees hands-on experiences, demonstrating the advanced dialogue capabilities of their technologies.
As the GDC 2024 concludes, the overwhelming interest and participation in the AI-centric discussions and exhibits underscore the technology’s growing influence and potential across industries.
