Persona Raises $10M to Build Wearable AI Agent
Persona raised $10M led by Vine Ventures to develop a personal AI assistant with a wearable band.

The big picture: Zach Yadegari, co-founder of the recently acquired calorie tracking app Cal AI, has launched Persona, a new AI agent startup. The company has already raised $10 million in a round led by Vine Ventures, with participation from Z Fellows founder Cory Levy and Collective Global.
Why it matters:
- Privacy-first approach: Persona aims to address growing user concerns about AI agent privacy by encrypting data in transit and at rest, allowing users to delete their data, and promising not to sell user conversations to advertisers or data brokers.
- Hardware integration: Differentiating itself from purely software-based AI assistants, Persona will soon offer a $179 wearable band, providing a physical interface for interaction and a unique user experience.
- Consolidation of utility: The startup envisions its AI agent as a ‘super app’ that collapses various daily utility applications—from shopping and ride-hailing to email and travel booking—into a single, intelligent assistant.
How it works:
- Wearable activation: The Persona band features a button or wrist-flick activation, ensuring the assistant is not ‘always listening’ and providing users with explicit control over data capture.
- Cloud-based AI: Persona’s AI model runs in the cloud, not on the device, with data encrypted during transmission and storage, and users retaining the ability to delete their personal information.
- Secure transactions: For purchases, the agent integrates with external providers like Stripe Link, requiring explicit user approval and preventing the agent from accessing sensitive credit card details.
The catch: Persona enters a competitive landscape with existing personal AI assistants like Instinct and Meta’s Muse, as well as wearable AI devices such as the Amazon-acquired Bee. While the company emphasizes privacy and unbiased recommendations, its business model still relies on ads presented during shopping research, which could challenge user trust in the agent’s neutrality. The ambition to collapse ‘all utility apps’ into a single AI assistant is a significant undertaking, requiring substantial user adoption and overcoming the inertia of established app ecosystems.
