Freya Cultivation Systems Secures €500K to Revolutionize Greenhouse Agriculture

KAUNAS, LITHUANIA – December 16, 2024

Freya Cultivation Systems, a Lithuanian agritech innovator, has raised €500,000 in a seed funding round led by Coinvest Capital and BSV Ventures, with contributions from Sofigama, Zunami Oy, and angel investors Paulius Vilemas and Marko Lehtovaara. The investment will advance Freya’s cutting-edge greenhouse cultivation technology, including its flagship Aeroframe system.

Unlocking the Potential of Fog-Based Agriculture

Founded in 2018 by agronomist Dr. Gediminas Kudirka, Freya specializes in fog-based cultivation, an advanced method of growing plants using nutrient-rich mist. The company’s Aeroframe system introduces three-dimensional growing surfaces, doubling cultivation area and reducing per-plant costs. By leveraging this approach, Aeroframe has demonstrated the potential to double crop yields for strawberries, lettuce, herbs, and tomatoes, while tripling grower profits.

Dr. Kudirka explained:

“Growing plants in fog is one of the most effective cultivation methods, but its potential has been limited by existing technology. Our patented ultrasonic misting innovation unlocks the biological potential of plants in fog environments.”

Strategic Applications and Global Impact

Freya has already conducted pilot projects using its titanium ultrasonic irrigators, delivering optimally sized mist droplets to maximize plant health. Current applications include:

• A World Bank-funded tomato cultivation project in Djibouti, East Africa.

• Collaboration with a South African biotech company.

• Testing by a European space agency.

Freya plans to construct a demonstration greenhouse near Kaunas, showcasing its Aeroframe technology to greenhouse operators in Central and Western Europe, North America, and Japan.

Next Steps: Automation and Smart Integration

In addition to expanding its Aeroframe system, Freya aims to incorporate advanced automation features, including seeding and harvesting technologies. This aligns with the company’s broader goal to establish an innovation ecosystem in Lithuania’s Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) sector.

Lukas Bartusevicius, Freya’s CEO, highlighted the growing importance of greenhouse agriculture:

“With global demand for fresh vegetables exceeding field agriculture capacity, greenhouse solutions like ours are critical. We’re poised to support growers with groundbreaking yield improvements.”

Investor Confidence in Freya’s Vision

Viktorija Trimbel, Director of Coinvest Capital, praised the project’s unique integration of deep technology, hardware, and agricultural production:

“Freya’s team has developed an effective solution that positions Lithuania as a key player in the global agritech sector. Our investment will catalyze growth and unlock opportunities in regional and global markets.”
