AMD agrees to acquire World Labs for $8.2 billion
The all-stock transaction absorbs the spatial-intelligence startup seven months after a funding round valued it at $5.4 billion.

AMD agreed to acquire spatial intelligence startup World Labs in an all-stock transaction valued at $8.2 billion, with co-founder Fei-Fei Li joining the chipmaker as chief scientist reporting to chief executive Lisa Su.
Why it matters
Bringing a foundation model team directly inside AMD links chip architecture to generative 3D simulation rather than treating spatial workloads as external software.
The details
- World Labs raised $1 billion in February at a post-money valuation estimated by PitchBook at $5.4 billion, with backing from AMD, Nvidia, and Autodesk.
- Autodesk contributed $200 million of that financing round to take on a strategic advisory role.
- World Labs released its Atlas world model in September, integrating scene generation, 3D reconstruction, and simulation into one framework.
The catch
The acquisition terms come from AMD's announcement, and the transaction remains subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions before scheduled completion at the end of 2026.
