Natural Closes $30M to Build AI Agent Payments

The big picture: San Francisco-based payments infrastructure startup Natural has closed a $30 million Series A round, led by Kirsten Green at Forerunner Ventures. This brings the company’s total funding to over $40 million in under a year since its launch.

Why it matters:

  • Emerging Market: Natural is positioning itself as a direct rival to Stripe, but for AI agents rather than humans, betting that autonomous systems will become critical financial actors.
  • Significant Growth: The agentic AI payments market is projected to expand from $7 billion to $93 billion by 2032 as AI agents increasingly execute financial transactions without human oversight.
  • Full Stack Approach: Unlike many fintech companies that aggregate existing rails, Natural claims to own its entire payments stack, including ledgering, multi-bank settlement, fraud detection, and agent identity verification.

How it works:

  • Agent-Centric Infrastructure: Natural is designing financial rails specifically for AI agents, enabling them to hold wallets, receive payments, pay invoices, make purchases, and transfer funds across banks and currencies autonomously.
  • Comprehensive Product Suite: Six products are currently in general availability, including FDIC-insured agent wallets, one-way vaults, peer-to-peer payment tools, internal and external transfer infrastructure, and a marketplace-building layer.
  • Aggressive Roadmap: Over the coming months, Natural plans to ship voice-based PCI payments, agent-issued debit and charge cards, and per-API-call billing, with credit lines for agents and direct payment rail access following in Q4.

The catch: Natural faces competition from other early-stage agentic payment startups like Ralio and Paygentic, but the most significant threat comes from Stripe itself, which is actively building similar capabilities. The harder question is market timing; agentic commerce transaction volumes are currently negligible, meaning Natural is raising at infrastructure scale before demand fully materializes.
