In May 2025, Romainville-based defense tech startup Alta Ares secured €2 million in funding to enhance its AI-powered drone technology. The funding round was co-led by Expansion Ventures and Starburst Ventures, with participation from Apeiron Venture Capital, Better Angle, Kima Ventures, Apok Invest, EPSL VC, and Samuel Dralet.
Founded in 2024 by Hadrien Canter (CEO), Stanislas Walch (COO), Théo Bondarec (CTO), and Alain Henry, Alta Ares develops AI-powered computer vision technology for drones, enabling real-time object detection and tracking directly on the edge. The company offers three main services: military recognition, industrial inspection, and surveillance.
Alta Ares has tested its technology in operational conditions in Ukraine, where it was used for real-time detection and identification of military targets. In March 2025, the company reported winning the NATO Innovation Challenge for its AI-based battlefield recognition system.
