Bruno Braun on AI-Powered Floor Plans with FloorPlan AI | Exclusive Interview

Making floor designs takes a lot of time and requires juggling the client’s wants, the restrictions of the location, and the need for efficiency. FloorPlan AI creates automatically generated layouts to expedite things. These layouts can be changed by architects in a basic web editor and then directly exported to AutoCAD and Revit. Co-founder Bruno Braun’s software and civil engineering experience helped define the platform. He also discusses how FloorPlan AI is evolving design and future directions for artificial intelligence.

1. What inspired the creation of FloorPlan AI, and how has its vision evolved since its inception?

Bruno Braun: I worked for some time in the construction sector and even studied Civil Engineering for two years. I decided to combine my two passions, engineering and programming, and today, I’m a partner in a software company that operates a SaaS for managing architecture firms in Brazil. Considering the advancements in AI, during an informal conversation with some of our clients, the idea for FloorPlan-AI came about as an ally to architects for creating sketches and ideas for floor plans. Our biggest challenge now is to improve our generated floor plans based on user feedback.

2. What gaps in traditional floor plan design and customization did FloorPlan AI aim to address?

Bruno Braun: The process of creating floor plans is extremely complex. The architect needs to thoroughly understand the client’s requirements and consider several construction variables, such as budget, site analysis, project compatibility, etc.

Our goal is to simplify part of this process in two main ways:

1. Inspiring multiple floor plan layout ideas with AI assistance based on some of these requirements.

2. Speeding up the editing and adaptation of the layout in a simplified manner through a web editor before exporting to file formats that can be used in well-known software such as AutoCAD, Revit, etc.

3. FloorPlan AI offers AI-generated floor plans based on user requirements. How does this feature simplify the design process?

Bruno Braun: User requirements are extensive and vary among architects. That’s why we decided to focus the MVP on something simpler—single-story residential floor plans, leaving more complex constraints for future versions. This way, we don’t intend to generate a complete project from just a few prompts but rather to provide ideas that can inspire the allocation of rooms within a specific area.

4. Your platform includes a user-friendly web editor for customization. How does this tool enhance the user experience?

Bruno Braun: Our web editor was developed with a focus on reallocating rooms at this stage. Architects can select one of the presented designs and make basic modifications using simpler geometric shapes than those found in, for instance, AutoCAD. For example, we’ve implemented object-snapping, zoom, and resizing functionalities similar to those in well-known software tools, all aimed at streamlining the layout and design of the rooms.

5. Data integration is critical for design projects. How does FloorPlan AI’s DXF export feature support seamless project implementation?

Bruno Braun: DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) is widely recognized and compatible with most CAD software. By exporting to DXF, FloorPlan AI preserves important project details, including layers and dimensions. However, our current focus is on the initial phase of design rather than continuous integration with other products. After the initial design and any necessary modifications are finalized, the rest of the process will take place with different tools. We acknowledge this as a limitation of the product, but it’s an area we may address in the future.

6. FloorPlan AI caters to users across various pricing tiers. How do your Basic, Pro, and Enterprise plans address your audience’s diverse needs?

Bruno Braun: The difference between the plans lies in the number of credits for generating designs. All users receive 12 free credits to test the tool, with 1 credit = 1 design. The Pro plan offers up to 100 monthly design ideas. The Enterprise plan focuses on a collaborative tool where multiple project members can view, edit, and comment on projects in real-time.

7. How do you envision the role of AI in floor plan design evolving over the next five years?

Bruno Braun: As in many other professional fields, AI will play a fundamental role in bringing processes and workflows to a state-of-the-art level. Our vision is that the project creation process will become much faster and more automated and include text/audio instructions so that most modifications won’t need to be done manually. It will also integrate local regulations and various other tools (for example, interior design ideas and furniture placement), as well as different agents, to create increasingly personalized projects that maximize the efficiency of client requirements.

8. FloorPlan AI integrates advanced technologies like AI and DXF exports. How do these innovations position the platform in a competitive market?

Bruno Braun: We have a SaaS platform for architects in Brazil, with over 300 active users and thousands of contacts. Our main differentiator is our ability to quickly reach this specific niche, allowing us to gather rapid feedback and iterate fast.

9. What do you enjoy most and least about your journey in developing FloorPlan AI?

Bruno Braun: I love creating software and the construction industry—my family has been in the business for 30 years. Combining these two passions brings me the greatest satisfaction. However, AI is still a relatively new field, so it can be frustrating that we’re still dealing with non-deterministic outcomes at this stage.

10. What does success mean to you, and what are your aspirations for FloorPlan AI in the coming years?

Bruno Braun: To me, success means living each day with freedom—choosing my lifestyle and the projects I work on—while staying motivated, delivering real value, and ultimately achieving tangible results. This definition applies to both my professional and personal life. With FloorPlan-AI, my goal is to become a leading software solution in Architecture and Engineering by integrating multiple tools into a single platform.

Editor’s Note

For Bruno Braun, AI isn’t replacing architects—it’s making their work faster and easier. FloorPlan AI helps generate layouts, refine designs, and integrate seamlessly with CAD tools. As AI-driven customization and automation evolve, Bruno sees a future where floor plans adapt in real time, follow regulations, and incorporate interior design, making architecture more efficient and accessible.
